Novolog Insulin Aspart

Novolog Insulin Aspart

Advanced Diabetes Supply® carries insulin aspart. Insulin Aspart is a rapid acting human insulin analog used to treat people living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes for the control of high blood sugar.

Insulin Aspart, brand name NovoLog, releases a hormone called insulin into the body to lower glucose (sugar) levels in the blood. It acts like the insulin that your body naturally produces to keep your blood sugar levels normal after eating meals.

How to Use This Medicine:

Your healthcare provider will work with you to personalize your insulin dose, and treatment based on your insulin needs and lifestyle. The dosing for insulin aspart is different for every person. You will be taught how to give yourself the insulin.  Make sure you understand all instructions.  Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist if you have any questions.

Always double-check both the concentration (strength) of your insulin and your dose. Concentration and dose are not the same. The dose is how many units of insulin you will use. The concentration tells how many units of insulin are in each milliliter (mL), such as 100 units/mL (U-100), but this does not mean you will use 100 units at a time.

Insulin aspart is available at ADS as a vial for injection or by insulin pump. Follow the instructions given to you by your pharmacist or healthcare provider on how to prepare your vial for injection.

Inject insulin aspart within 5-10 minutes before a meal. The peak time for this insulin is 30 to 90 minutes with an effective duration lasting less than 5 hours. Do not use insulin aspart on an empty stomach, because this can increase your risk for severely low blood sugar.

Check your blood sugar levels regularly to ensure that this medication is working correctly. Low blood sugar is the most common side effect. Monitor for symptoms of low blood sugar, and report difficulties in keeping your blood glucose levels within the target range to your prescriber.
