Description

The OmniPod Insulin Management System relies on the Pod – a wireless, tube-free, and waterproof* insulin pump. This small, sleek device contains everything from an insulin reservoir to the mechanisms and components needed to deliver this medicine reliably.

You’ll control your Pod with your PDM, which makes up the other half of the OmniPod system. With the PDM, you can adjust the timing of insulin delivery, calculate boluses, check up to 90 days of data, and even test your blood sugar level with a built-in glucose monitor.

Features

  • Allows people with diabetes to get insulin without shots
  • Pod shares information with PDM wirelessly
  • PDM includes a full-color, backlit LCD screen
  • Patients can wear OmniPod while exercising, showering, and swimming*
  • Reservoir can store up to 200 units of insulin

Uses

While using the OmniPod Insulin Management System, people with diabetes can benefit from automatic insulin delivery. Along with the system’s pump (or “Pod”), users can control their insulin delivery and adjust settings with their Personal Diabetes Manager.

FAQs

The OmniPod is an insulin management system, not a continuous glucose monitoring system. This system is usable alongside CGM systems but cannot be directly integrated with them.

At a minimum, you’ll need to fill your OmniPod with 85 units of insulin for it to start working. It can hold a maximum of 200 units.

An activated OmniPod will still deliver basal insulin even if your PDM is not nearby. Still, you cannot deliver bolus doses, change your basal delivery, or access other OmniPod functions without this device.

This system has received approval for people with diabetes in all age groups – children and teens included.

You can travel while wearing an OmniPod. However, it’s a good idea to get in touch with your airline before your flight to ask about safety requirements.

During the setup process, your OmniPod creates a unique link with your PDM. Because of this, you will not need to worry about interference from another OmniPod while using this system.

The OmniPod is meant for use with U-100 rapid-acting insulin. The insulin analogs Apidra, Humalog, and Novolog have all been tested and OK’d for use with the system.

*The Pod itself has a received waterproof IP28 rating, which means it can go up to 25 feet underwater for an hour or less. However, the PDM is not waterproof.

†The OmniPod system uses a soft cannula for insulin delivery, which goes 6.5 mm under the user’s skin.
